CMJ1 – Grafton Gully

INTRODUCTION

The Central Motorway Junction Stage 1 entailed linking the Southern & North-Western motorways through to the port by way of Grafton Gully. We were commissioned by the "free flow" Alliance to prepare, monitor & report on the tender and construction programmes.

Items of interest included:

  • Building a railway bridge off-line and jacking into position over a weekend
  • New bridges over the motorway for Grafton Road and Wellesley Street
  • New Southern motorway bridges at the head of Grafton Gully to get over the links to the South and West - one of which included massive offset columns
  • Strengthened and widened Khyber Pass Road viaduct
  • Widened motorway under Mountain Road (basalt rock cutting)

The project was first to be built under the Alliance model.
